Locking down a live server without downtime
Security changes that check the site first and undo themselves if anything breaks.
A working sample we built to show how we would solve a problem like this. It is not a delivered project.
In plain terms
Tightening the security of a live website server is risky, because one wrong change can take the site down. This demo has an inspection tool that can only look and never change anything. It also has a change runner that tests the site before and after each change and reverses it automatically if something breaks. A written guide covers each task step by step.
- The inspection tool can look but never touch.
- Each change is checked, and reversed automatically if the site misbehaves.
- The safety rules are enforced by the tools, not left to memory.
What this does not claim: Tested on saved command results and a practice folder. No real server was touched.
Technical details
Read-only inspection tool, a change runner with pre/post site checks and automatic rollback, and a runbook for each hardening item. Hard rules (for example verified backup before change) are enforced in the tools. Tested against recorded command outputs and a sandbox directory with scripted site checks.
- Python
- Shell
- Automated tests
